I was just about halfway through my visit of the Basilica of Saint Anthony of Padua. I know that this basilica is dedicated to their beloved saint but so far I still haven’t seen anything related to Saint Anthony of Padua. That was about to change as I made my way behind the altar. There is a rather large and incredibly ornate chapel behind the main altar. Usually these places would be more chapels but it seems this is dedicated to what are their most important treasures. I have arrived at the Chapel of the Relics.

With a name like that, I immediately understood the significance of the chapel. Just by the look itself you can tell that this is one very important chapel. The chapel is decorated in very ornate baroque style, very unlike the rest of the church which has a bit more Romanesque look to it. This only adds to the mix of architectural styles this basilica has. The chapel was built in the seventeenth century and during which the baroque style was quite common. Personally, I like this style as it is very flamboyant and in my opinion a work of art. Of course the other styles are also works of art but for me, baroque is one of the most beautiful styles.
