Inside the Basilica of Saint Anthony of Padua
Inside the Basilica of Saint Anthony of Padua

When I found out that the city of Padova or Padua was along the route I was considering for the rest of the trip, I thought about including it as part of the itinerary but when I found out that it was also part of the UNESCO World Heritage site listing then I knew that I had to include it. The only thing I knew about the city of Padova is who is probably it’s most famous resident – Saint Anthony of Padua. Don’t get me wrong, I don’t know much about his story, all I know is that he is associated with Padua, presumably because he did his most important work here.

The Basilica of Saint Anthony of Padua turns out not to be the cathedral of Padova. There is another cathedral which has that honor but I would argue that the Basilica of Saint Anthony of Padua would be the more significant one. I will quickly try to visit this basilica since I still need to check in and get rid of the my bags before finally relaxing. The interior of the church is pretty traditional, in fact, I didn’t feel that it was incredibly beautiful considering that this is a church associated with a saint. Based on my limited architectural knowledge the interiors felt more Romanesque with the multiple arches which line both sides of the church.
