If there was a center of the town of Ortiei, I would guess it would have to be the one near the pedestrian shopping area. I happened to be staying somewhere near the place and it was certainly livelier staying there compared to other places. However, I didn’t really plan on what to do here in Ortisei. The original plan was to just go from Cortina d’Ampazzo and slowly make my way through the mountains and finally arrive in Ortisei where I would stay for the night. But then what, I never really thought of what I would be doing there so I did a little research that night.

It should probably not come as a surprise to know that there are mountains all over the area and that Ortisei is a good base for people into winter sports – specifically skiing. The only winter sport I know is making snowmen and snow angels, apart from that I don’t do any of them. However, it seems that I can go up the mountain even if I don’t need to do any winter sports.
There is a cable car which takes visitors from Ortisei to the mountain known as Seceda. I was hoping that I can just walk around there even if I don’t need to do any skiing. I don’t think it was a good time for me to start learning. The cable car station was surprisingly a short walk away from the hotel. The following morning I made my way to the cable car station and I was surprised as to how busy it was. I didn’t wake up that late and yet there were already a lot of people making their way up. I can see that everyone is all in their own gear and ready for some fun in the snow. I must have looked silly wearing my running shoes.
