Closer Look at the Mountains Around Cortina d’Ampezzo

I took more than three hours to drive from Cividale del Friuli to the ski resort town of Cortina d’Ampezzo. By the time I got there, it was already almost sundown but not quite. I still have an hour of daylight left and I was intending to make use of it. I won’t be staying here that long so I will make the most of the light while it is still there. My hotel at Cortina d’Ampezzo is far from the city center which means I needed to drive, which is okay. I was making my way to the city center when I saw a road which goes up the mountain. I wasn’t sure where it was going but I went anyway, hoping I would be able to see something interesting.

The road basically leads to a quiet part of town. This is where the local hospital is and the area is generally residential. With the popularity of Cortina d’Ampezzo, I don’t think I lot of locals can afford to live in the center, nor would they want to. Here you can get to see the how the locals live. And here am I with my car driving through the neighborhood while locals patiently walk the steep roads just to get home. From here you can already see some of the neighboring mountains. I don’t have any names for these mountains but they already look great. At this point in the day, the sun was still shining on the mountains and it really highlights the features of the peaks. I might be stating the obvious here but the mountains here are just solid rock. There is snow at the less steeper slopes of the mountain but the peaks are generally clear of snow. I am sure there there are better places to see here in Cortina d’Ampezzo but that would have to come the following day.
