I was trying to find the UNESCO World Heritage listed site here in the Cividale del Friuli. Unfortunately, the site seems to be too large and while I was already right there, I still needed to find out how to get in. There didn’t seem to be too many signs here and I was struggling to find the entrance. I ended up at an old village square which is flanked by the Church of Saints Peter and Blaise as well as the old monastery. I knew that the monastery was where I needed to go, but I decided to go see the church first.

The Church of Saints Peter and Blaise is an amalgamation of three structures that were here. Because of previous damage to the smaller chapels one of which is for Saint Blaise, it was incorporated into the Church of Saint Peter. One of the main features of the church is the frescoes on the facade of the church. The frescoes are obviously fading from centuries of being exposed to the elements but for now you can still see the images on the walls. Because of the fading frescoes, it gives the impression that the church is older than it actually is. I don’t know about you but it looks like the church was built when there were still three digits in the year but this one was built in the fourteenth century, which I consider to be young as far as Italian Churches are concerned.
