Zooming in on the Petrified Sand Dunes in Arches National Park
Zooming in on the Petrified Sand Dunes in Arches National Park

I was visiting the Arches National Park in the state of Utah. It was cold but dry and clear. I thought it was perfect for visiting the place since I heard that Arches can get crowded in the high season. Like the other national parks, there is usually ample parking space for visitors especially in the very important and popular areas. There would be less popular spots but they would still have parking but only for a handful for cars. I was following the main driving route in the park and I have already seen several interesting structures, however, still no sign of any arches.

Arches National Park is has a large concentration of arches which is why it was given that name. If Bryce Canyon is known for the hoodoos, Arches National Park has its arches. I understand that there are around two thousand of these arches here in the park but I think only a few of them are easily accessible. I came here with visions of seeing at least hundreds of arches but I still haven’t seen a single one. For now, I will have to content myself with anything that comes along the way. The latest stop is one for petrified sand dunes. These formed when the sand dunes hardened into rock under rocks and those rocks eventually erode away, exposing the ancient sand dunes. The sand dunes were curious structures and I would have wanted a closer look but the viewing area is quite far from the actual sand dunes. I think it should be possible to walk there but I couldn’t be bothered to.
