The rain wasn’t that heavy but it was constant and it was getting my camera wet. I was at the Big Bend at Zion National Park and it takes the wonder out of the visit. It was a shame since I wasn’t expecting it to rain in the desert but I guess this is a rare experience for me. I didn’t bother going to the Virgin River anymore since it was raining. I just stayed near the bus stop where there was some shelter. I got on the bus and proceeded to the next stop. Fortunately for me, the rain stopped and the sky was clearing somewhat. This stop was specifically for the Three Patriarchs, but it is also a jumping off point for other trails within the park.
The Three Patriarchs refers to three prominent peaks that you can see this area. The name is a reference to the biblical patriarchs Abraham, Isaac and Jacob. By this time, the sky was clearing up and although there were still clouds shrouding some of the peaks, it was giving interesting scenery that you don’t get to see that often. Three Patriarchs are a short distance away from the bus stop and visitors would need to hike a bit to get there. I would describe as more like following a trail going to other places and the Three Patriarchs are along the way. The peaks are a little tall for normal visitors to be climbing but I could imagine that some people would be able to do that. The trail is well sign-posted with directions to various trails however most of the trails are several miles long and I don’t think I was prepared to hike that far. Especially with the weather bring unpredictable as it already is.
