The Topkapi Palace Museum used to be the sultan’s palace that was constructed after the fall of Constantinople. Compared to European palaces which I have visited before, the Topkapi Palace feels much more modest at least from the outside. The palace buildings felt much like fancier houses but this turned out to be just the outside since some of the buildings can be really fancy inside. By this time in the day, I was already tired. I felt like I wanted to go back to the hotel not just because it was very hot that afternoon, but I had to remember that I actually just came from a flight from Asia and I haven’t slept yet. I was just going through the palace just looking at the exhibits.
It isn’t just one single building of exhibits. There are several buildings here that have different exhibits so I was walking between buildings and seeing what they have. At one point of the walk, visitors we led to an open area which happens to offer a view of the city of Istanbul. The view is one of the Bosphorus Strait. This is the one which divides Istanbul, and of course, Türkiye into the European side and the Asian side. In case you are curious, the Topkapi Palace is on the European side of Türkiye. It was a beautiful but very hot day. It would be nice to see this later in the afternoon when it wasn’t so warm but I just took my photos and continued on.
