One might think that the Casa di Giulietta is a quick cash grab to take advantage of public’s interest in the character of Juliet Capulet from William Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet. The famous tragedy was set in Verona and both are children of rival houses. Eventually, this house set in just away from the main square in old Verona was thought to be the actual house of the Capulets and thus Juliet. They even have a lovely balcony where Juliet could have listened to Romeo serenading her. The house is indeed charming and it does set everything up very nicely for a pleasant visit to this house.

However, I think it is too easy to get carried away by the whole Romeo and Juliet theme that visitors might miss one of the highlights of the house. The house is actually very wonderfully preserved. This is more prominent in the upper floor where you can see very old frescoes that were painted on the walls of this house. Not only were there frescoes but wall decorations which were common during the middle ages and the renaissance were also here. There were also some fireplaces which I thought were very charming but I wonder about its authenticity. If you do manage to make it all the way to Verona, do make sure to visit this charming little house. You don’t need to be a literature fan to understand all this.
