I was visiting the vast Arena di Verona in the city of Verona. This structure is a wonderfully preserved structure that is still in use today. These days, it is a major tourist attraction in the city of Verona which made it to the UNESCO World Heritage site list. The amphitheater looks a lot like the other intact amphitheaters that I have visited. Curiously enough, I didn’t get to go in the one in Rome so this would be my first visit to a Roman amphitheater in Italy. As you might expect, there are a lot of people visiting the amphitheater. I managed to skip the queue by purchasing an online ticket but by then there were already visitors inside the amphitheater.

One of the things that I like to do when visiting ancient Roman amphitheaters is to go to the top and try to photograph the entire thing. It was hard to do it here since the amphitheater was rather flat, or simply just too big. My lens wasn’t able to capture the entire amphitheater and was only able to capture half of it. I was however able to take a panoramic shot of the amphitheater with my phone. As you can see in the photo, there is a massive shadow on the amphitheater, this is caused by the walls of the arena blocking the sunlight. The sun was low in the sky that it causes lighting conditions like this. While I said that there were already a lot of people in the amphitheater, the place was just too large to be filled up by the morning tourist crowd. I was here outside of the peak tourist season which meant that I was able to avoid most of the tourist traffic.
