I doesn’t take a lot of imagination to know what can be seen at a museum dedicated to one of the greatest architects of the time – Andrea Palladio. The Palazzo Barbaran da Porto is home to the Palladio Museum, a museum dedicated to the said architect. Much of Vicenza’s fame can be traced to this man who designed several structures in the city which would then help it get on the UNESCO World Heritage list. I have almost completed my checklist of the Palladian sites within the city, which also includes this very building the museum is housed in. The museum was formerly the residence of a nobleman and it was later renovated and converted to the museum we see now.

There was a lot of literature about the works of Andrea Palladio. There were several scale models of his work including some of the ones I have visited or seen. There is a lot more detail on the exhibit that I would ever hope to understand. For me, I was happy enough to see these scale models as I was always been fascinated with how they were constructed. The models were sliced to give visitors and idea of how the inside is structured. At the same time, it gave me the idea that architecture is not only just about the structure which we see from the outside, but the interior structure of the building is also the responsibility of the architect. Looking at the model, it is quite impressive what has been done since this was all done without the use of computers.
