Even though I wasn’t a huge art museum guy, I actually found myself enjoying my visit to the Gallerie d’Italia in Vicenza. This is one of the more significant museums here in the city. The museum was very well made and you can tell immediately that the feel of the museum was different from the others. The museum houses a large collection of Venetian art in its premises. I don’t know of any famous pieces that are housed here but the quality of the art is quite good. It is not just paintings that are on display here but there are also other forms of art. One of the ones which I thought were impressive enough was a sculpture.

The sculpture in question is one entitled The Fall of the Rebel Angels”. The sculpture isn’t one which is permanent but I just so happened to be there when it was on display. The statue was created by Agostino Fasolato in the eighteenth century. I was actually under the impression that it was a more recent sculpture but I had no idea it was that old. The sculpture is shows the fall of the rebels angels as described in the book of Revelations. There are sixty figures in total, and all are different. Incredibly, this was all done using a single piece of marble. I can’t imagine how much skill it takes to do something like that. The mere complexity of the statue boggles the mind and I can only think that it can only be done using a 3D printer, which of course didn’t exist in the eighteenth century. Seeing it is believing.
