Going in the Teatro Olimpica in Vicenza

I had to read up on what’s up with Vicenza being on the UNESCO World Heritage list and it turns out that most of it was because of Andrea Palladio who is considered to be one of the most influential architects. The city of Vicenza has several sites included in the UNESCO World Heritage listing and all of them have something to do with Andrea Palladio. In fact, the official listing is “City of Vicenza and Palladian Villas of the Veneto”. Not only that, he also designed churches in Venice and those churches ended up in the UNESCO list as well under Venice and its Lagoon. It is just a testament to the profound influence of Andrea Palladio not only on the city of Vicenza but to the field of architecture as a whole.

Since I was still waiting for my accommodation to open, I decided to officially start my visit to the Palladian sites here in Vicenza. I would start at the furthest one which is the Teatro Olimpico. I say furthest but it isn’t really that far. It was a short walk from the Piazza dei Signori. Fortunately, there was Google maps to help me find my way to the place. When I got there, I wasn’t exactly sure where to enter. I thought I saw a sign to the Teatro Olimpico but I couldn’t find my way in. Turns out there was a group of people who were just chatting right at the entrance, effectively blocking it. They did step aside to let me through but I thought that wasn’t very nice to be blocking it in the first place. Of course, it wasn’t intentional, but I was hoping they would be more conscious of the fact that people might need to go in.
