At this point in the morning, I was just randomly walking around the Piazza dei Signori in Vicenza. I couldn’t find any signs as to what I was looking at. I knew this square was important and I also assumed that whatever was around the square were just as important. It was hard to miss the Basilica Palladiana which one of the most prominent features of the square. There are other landmarks here which are worth looking at. At the far end of the square, are a pair of towers which was a strange place to put the towers. I would have imagined that the towers would belong more in the center of the square but it was here at one end of the piazza.

These two columns have statues on top of them. One has a statue of Jesus Christ, called the Redentore or Redeemer. It was hard to see since it was quite high up. The other column is probably the more interesting one and it has a winged lion on top of it. For people who would be familiar with the history of Venice, the winged lion is a symbol of Saint Mark the Evangelist, which is associated with Venice and the Venetian republic. Vicenza, being part of the Venetian republic, thus also had a symbol of Saint Mark the Evangelist.
