It was still raining when I decided to go out of the Chiesa degli Eremitani. I was worried that my actual destination might not be open anymore by the time I get there so I decided to head there straight away. Unfortunately, the way to the nearby chapel was open with some trees in between, so it was a wet trek for me to the nearby chapel. The chapel in question is the Chappella degli Scrovegni or Scrovegni Chapel, which is probably the most important sites I will be visiting here. The church itself isn’t very impressive just like all the other churches that I visited here. But now, I know that these churches all had something significant.

Because of the importance and size of the Cappella degli Scrovegni, entry of visitors is controlled. In fact, they have a very high tech system of doing this. Next to the chapel, there is a glass room which is basically the waiting area. Entry to the glass room is controlled so whoever is outside will all go inside together. The purpose of this is to regulate the temperature of the waiting rooms as well as the chapel itself. This is done in an effort to better preserve the frescoes inside the chapel. As long as the temperature of the chapel is maintained, there will not be any moisture that forms inside the chapel. Even when people go out, the waiting visitors can’t just going straight in. The temperature needs to be equalized first before anyone goes in. If you think it is a pain, then yes, it is, but this is all to ensure that future generations can still see the frescoes far into the future. Think of it this way, if they make such a huge effort to equalize the temperatures of the rooms, then it must mean that this is really something worth preserving.
