I had a quick snack/lunch at the market hall of the Palazzo della Ragione. I was starting to make my way to the next site when it started to rain. While it wasn’t pouring rain, it was still wet enough to ruin a lot of my photos. I only hope that it doesn’t get any worse than this. I hid the camera in my coat and started walking. The next spot isn’t too far from the city center but this one would be wide open and thus more affected by rain. The area looks like it is more like in a park. There is a major church here which is part of the UNESCO World Heritage list but I wasn’t going there yet. I thought to visit one of the bigger churches here if only to shelter from the rain.

Chiesa degli Eremitani is a thirteenth century church built by the Augustinian friars. The name is unique since it doesn’t refer to a saint’s name – it means the Church of the Hermits. While it doesn’t show in the name, the church is dedicated to the Saints Philip and James. To no one’s surprise, there are also some frescoes to be seen here. I believe it was a very popular art form back then and it isn’t surprising to see a lot of churches have this feature. Not too many people come here it seems, as most people would be making a beeline for the far more significant church nearby.
