The Palazzo della Ragione in Padova is a magnificent piece of medieval architecture. The hall is considered to be the largest medieval hall still in use. While the upper floor isn’t used for its original purpose, the ground floor is still a market hall. The upper floor is a hall richly decorated with more then two hundred frescoes which helped it make it to the list of UNESCO World Heritage Sites. The main hall itself is used for different purposes and it seems it is used as an exhibition hall. I already saw one which was by Yoko Ono and I think it was a bit too abstract for me. But the more interesting one is of all things a large statue of a horse.

I was under the impression that the horse statue is a recent work of art, however it was actually built in the fifteenth century and it is in remarkable condition. The horse is made of wood and it reminds me of a Trojan Horse which would of course be bigger. This particular horse is supposedly modeled after the a horse sculpture which apparently I didn’t pay too much attention to. There is a statue of a horse outside the Basilica of Saint Anthony of Padua that was made by Donatello and I totally missed it. Either way, the horse here is probably just as significant seeing as to how old it is.
