When I approached the Palazzo della Ragione in the city of Padova, I was prepared to be underwhelmed. I know that this place is a UNESCO World Heritage site but being “just” a town hall, I didn’t have very high hopes. I should know better than to doubt the list. Inside, all four walls of the hall are covered in frescoes. There seem to be the preferred art here in Padova and it isn’t just limited to secular buildings but also civilian structures like the town hall. I know that it has the name palazzo in it and it looks somewhat like a palace from the outside, the inside is just empty with a massive hall.

The emptiness of the hall is more than made up for but the more than two hundred frescoes that adorn the walls of the halls. One would need to pay closer attention to each of the frescoes to get a better idea of what story it tells. But I do not have the patience nor the time for that. I was surprised to see how a large portion of the frescoes feature religious characters. I was under the impression that this was a civilian building and thus would not have religious themes inside. It is not all just frescoes here. There is also a large clock on display here. It isn’t as nice as the nearby clock tower but it is still interesting to see a clock this large indoors.
