The Palazzo della Ragione is one of the more important structures here in the city of Padova. You can tell from the outside that it is a significant structure. With a name like that, I thought it was a palace but it is more accurate to say it is a town or city hall. In fact, it is considered to be the largest medieval hall till in use. Not bad for something almost seven hundred years old. One of the most prominent features of the Palazzo della Ragione is the open gallery which faces outside. This is called a loggia.

The loggia surrounds most of the structure and it gives it that palatial look. Visitors can enter from one side of the structure and it makes it easier to appreciate the design of the loggia. In fact, this loggia served as the inspiration for Basilica Palladiana in Vicenza. The ceiling of the loggia is likewise richly decorated. From the looks of it, it seems to be very well preserved especially considering that it is exposed to the elements. The loggia goes all the way to the end of the building. There is also another set on the opposite side of the building. On one end is a balcony used for announcements and proclamations.
