Molinetto della Croda
Molinetto della Croda

My next stop in my journey along the Prosecco Road brings me to a rather unexpected structure – Molinetto della Croda or the Croda Mill. This is a water mill built in the 1600s. Over the years it was used to mill flour. The mill is powered by the waters of the nearby Lierza stream. You can see this still happening with a tube of water diverting some water from the stream to the mill. I didn’t think the water was powerful enough to push the stream, especially in the winter months when the flow of the stream would be at its weakest. There is also a small waterfall beside the mill and it really makes for a rustic scene as you can see.

Over the years, the mill was abandoned and until it was purchased by the town where it was restored as a museum and exhibition center. It isn’t a stranger to disaster since it can be damaged by floodwaters every now and then. Just recently, it was again closed because of damage due to floods. These days, it is another stop along the prosecco road, there are signs along the road which point you to it, which makes it a little easier to find. There is a rather spacious parking lot outside the water mill and visitors would need to walk in a little to access the viewing area.
