I was following the main driving route at Arches National Park. So far, I have only seen imposing sandstone structures with curious names but still no sign of any arches, I believe it will eventually come but I will have everything else the park has to offer before getting there. Although the driving route in Arches National Park branches off, it is properly sign posted so you know exactly where you need to go. For now, I was just following the main route wherever that will lead me. I don’t think I would go wrong with that. The national parks are usually planned well so people won’t get lost trying to get somewhere. This includes driving.

One of the more prominent landmarks here is something called Balanced Rock. I already saw this from far away. It doesn’t look that balanced from far away, however it is just a matter of perspective. Up close and depending on the angle you can see how the massive rock is actually balanced on top of a narrow pillar. This is a result of material that the rocks are composed of. The pillar is made of softer material, while the boulder on top is made up sturdier material. Over the years erosion would whittle away at the softer material eventually producing a balanced rock like this. However, it should be noted that erosion hasn’t even stopped, eventually the pillar would eroded to the point that it won’t be able to support the boulder anymore that it will come crashing down. In fact, there used to be a smaller version of balanced rock nearby but that has already collapsed, not too long ago. Hopefully, the main Balanced Rock won’t come crashing down anytime soon.
