Luisen Square

I managed to see another Darmstadt landmark in Waldspirale. I think Darmstadt is some sort of artsy city so it won’t be so strange to see a uniquely designed apartment building. Alas, this area was a just a residential area and there wasn’t much to see apart from the Waldspirale itself. I decided to head back to the city center where hopefully would have a lot more going on. It was easy enough to be back to the city center. I was following a major road which leads straight to the city center. By this time it was already mid afternoon and a lot of people were already out.

This seems to be a major square of the city of Darmstadt. There were a lot of trams here which tells me that this is a major stop of the tram system. There are several important looking monuments here. There is the elegant Darmstadt Museum. Right in front of it, is a water fountain which wasn’t operating at the time. The other significant monument here is a column at the center of the square. This one has the words Ludwig engraved at the pedestal and apparently this one is dedicated to Ludwig I of Bavaria. Incidentally, the square itself is named after his wife Louise – Luisen Square. What I would remember most about this square is the presence of the trams, I would imagine having to avoid the oncoming trams here but I think they drive slow enough especially in these very busy areas.
