The city of Darmstadt in Germany is home to another UNESCO World Heritage site. Mathildenhöhe, or also known as the Darmstadt Artists Colony, is one rather unique world heritage site. As the name implies, this is basically a collection of buildings in this part of Darmstadt where artists who practice the art of Jugendstil expressed their talents. The result is a rather eclectic mix of structures and works of art. Most prominently the wedding tower is the one which stands out the most, primarily because of its height. It is also considered the symbol of Darmstadt.

It was hard for me to get information about this tower apart from what I can see. At the time of my visit, the tower was actually being used for its intended purpose. There were tables set outside the tower and there were also rose petals on the ground. Obviously, there was a wedding going on and I guess where else would you have it but the wedding tower. While the day was certainly nice, it was freezing cold. I can’t imagine the bride being able to handle that cold for long. Because of the wedding I wasn’t able to get in the tower, maybe if I go around a little I might be able to get in the tower once the wedding is over.
