Going to the Jewish Court

Going Down the Mikvah in Speyer

Going Down the Mikvah in Speyer

I was relieved to know that I might not need to travel too much today because Speyer has two separate UNESCO World Heritage sites. I was hoping to tick off three sites today since they are in the area. The Jewish Court at Speyer is listed under the ShUM Sites of Speyer, Worms and Mainz UNESCO World Heritage site listing. I guess that apart from what stories I have heard from the bible, I don’t really know much about Jewish culture. I know that this is just a Jewish Court but it is still a culture that I am not that exposed to.

Exploring the Jewish Court

Exploring the Jewish Court

There museum at the Jewish Court wasn’t very large and honestly, I got bored of it very quickly. There was only one other visitor here and it seems that the person was out learn more about their Jewish heritage. I am not Jewish so I don’t have much going for me in this visit. The actual site is outside the museum and once you are outside, you are on your own. There is a structure here which surprisingly goes underground. I thought that it was Jewish Court, why would it be underground. Nevertheless, I followed the path like an obedient tourist that I am. This seems to go much deeper than I expected and it would have to be intentionally built and not just one civilization building on top of another. I think there would be a few surprises here.
