Trier Central Square

The city of Trier seems to be larger than the previous German cities I have been to apart from Köln. I think this is the largest city in this region. It is only continuing how it was back in then when it was a major city in the Holy Roman empire. There were several monuments built over the years which includes the Port Nigra, which was a city gate. So much time has passed that the Porta Nigra was turned into a church, and then back into a city gate on orders by Napoleon Bonaparte. I don’t know how the people feel about this but I glad that it was reverted back to how it used to look.

Like a lot of European towns and cities, the city of Trier also has a central square. Since it was December when I visited, there was a big Christmas market in the central square. I arrived a little early in the day and the stalls were just opening. I think I should have enough time to explore the area before I start looking for food. There is usually a church nearby when there are town squares and Trier is no different. There is a Church of Saint Gangolf here in the square. It wasn’t as large as I thought it would be. I thought it was quite unwhelming since I thought it was the main church to see here in the city.
