It has been a long day for me, just this morning I was at the city of Aachen, now I made my way to the town of Brühl which is outside Köln. Brühl is actually host to a UNESCO World heritage site Castles of Augustusburg and Falkenlust at Brühl. There are two separate palaces and they are not right next to each other. I decided to head for the further one first which is Falkenlust Palace. I had to walk around thirty minutes to get to the palace. For something so important as a UNESCO World Heritage site, I thought that Falkenlust Hunting Lodge was too quiet. There weren’t a lot of people there, there were people who were just out for a walk.

When I arrived at the gates of the Falkenlust Hunting Lodge, I was struck at how ordinary the palace looked. Apparently, this palace was intentionally designed like country home, thus it’s more humble appearance compared to the nearby Augustuburg Palace which looks more like a palace. There is a gate outside the palace grounds and to my dismay, this was also closed and opening in January. I guess that explains why there aren’t a lot of people around this palace. I thought that I was early enough for a visit and I imagine that it would also be nice in there but I would never know.
