Going in the Aachen Cathedral

Inside the Aachen Cathedral

Inside the Aachen Cathedral

It is a shame that the Aachen City Hall isn’t as impressive inside as it was outside. The Aachen City Hall looks much like a cathedral outside but inside there was a lot of empty spaces. Sure there were the imperial regalia but I just think that for a structure as large this one, I would have expected more. Anyway, the time I spent in the Aachen City Hall was just enough for me to make it back to the Aachen Cathedral. The cathedral only opens at eleven in the morning and by the time I got there, there were a lot more people outside. There seems to be a lot of students this time around and I think it is part of a school trip. You can see the lack of interest of the students but there isn’t much they can do but go with whatever was planned.

The students ended up going in the cathedral first and us tourists were left following them inside. My first impression of the cathedral was that it isn’t as large as it looks from the outside. Secondly, there seems to be a lot of gold here, probably not surprising since this is a cathedral which Charlemagne commissioned when he ascended the throne. The layout of cathedral is also rather different. The dome is at the center of the cathedral, usually you would have it nearer the altar area.
