The Algarve Region is truly an amazing piece of natural scenery. One would think that it is all just beaches but there is more to it than that. There are cliffs which surround the beaches, which effectively divide the beaches into smaller more private ones. Apart from the cliffs, there are also the sea caves which inevitably form after thousands of years of erosion by the sea. Some may turn into cliffs, but if they are strong enough, some may turn into something more.

Inside Benagil Cave

The Benagil Cave is one of the most prominent places in the tour of the Algarve Region. Almost no tour doesn’t have this place in the flyers and it makes it really hard to avoid coming here even if you tried. Unsurprisingly, several boats in the sea started converging into a specific cave which seemed unremarkable from the outside. However, the cave apparently is deeper than it looked from the outside. Our boat was small enough to get closer but because there are several boats here we had to take turns before our boat can come closer.

We were still a bit of distance from the shore but it appeared to be close enough to start wading ashore. Of course, if that were true, we were have already run aground. Up in front is the Benagil Cave. It is a chamber carved out from rock as any cave would be. But what sets this apart is the hole above the cave. This gives the chamber a skylight unlike no other. Sure enough the sun was shining through the hole and revealing just how many people there actually were in the cave.
