The Mirage

The Volcano at The Mirage

The Volcano at The Mirage

By this time, it was already late afternoon. It may not be that obvious from the photos because the days were long when I visited. I walked all the way to the other end of the Las Vegas strip and I have seen a good few hotels and casinos. Some of them I haven’t even heard about. I did come across one which I have heard about and that is The Mirage. It obviously takes its name from the mirages that can be seen in the desert. I don’t really remember where I first heard about this hotel but it could have been some movie. It looks just like it did in the movies but I had no idea how big it really was. The most prominent structure of course is the hotel itself but what drew my attention was the feature in front of it – The Volcano.

The Mirage has a water feature just like the nearby Bellagio. However, this one is a bit more modest than the fountains at the Bellagio. The Volcano as the name implies is a feature meant to look like an an erupting volcano. There are natural gas pipes around the feature which would blow flames when the show is on. The volcano itself would spew water into the air giving the appearance of an eruption. I like the creativity of the idea and the fact that they went through the trouble of making it erupt. It really lends The Mirage a bit more character to distinguish it from the rest.
