Plaza Hotel and Casino

I had a great few days in the town of Page in Arizona. The town is in the desert seemingly in the middle of nowhere. But this place just so happens to have quite a few interesting places to visit nearby. There is the Glen Canyon Dam and also Antelope Slot Canyon, if you haven’t heard of that place, then you probably have seen photos of the place. It is also within reasonable driving distance of the North Rim which was part of my plans anyway so it made sense for me to stay here in Page.

This isn’t to say that these are the only places to see in Page. In fact, I was just scratching the surface. There is Lake Powell which seems to be a major recreational area here. There is also the desert, there are interesting formations which are worth visiting near the town. They even have a helicopter tour if that is your kind of thing. You might even want to rent a 4×4 to go to places which a normal car can’t go to. There are also river tours which I’m sure will be amazing to do on the Colorado River. If you want to go further out, there are always Utah just near door.

Unfortunately, I had to start to make my way back to Las Vegas. I needed to start early in the morning because it will be a long drive back to the big city. I originally came from Las Vegas and made my way to Flagstaff then the South Rim of the Grand Canyon and finally Page. I won’t be going back the same way. My drive would make me weave through parts of Utah and Arizona a few times before finally reaching the state of Nevada. The drive was actually very pleasant. I left early so it wasn’t that hot yet. I got a small look at southern Utah and I thought that landscape was amazing. I will be visiting that state the next time I get a chance.

Looking at the outside temperature I can see that for the most part the temperature has been nice. I know that Utah is quite high up so this is no surprise there. But as I was making my way I can see how the temperature would slowly creep up. This is especially true when I reached Nevada which was three hours into my drive. I actually didn’t bother stopping along the way. Since I felt that the drive wasn’t very tiring and it was still morning. The stress started coming when I started hitting the Las Vegas area. I am obviously not familiar driving here but it felt very stressful to drive on the highways with that much traffic.

I was grateful that I got Google Maps working for me so it helped relieve a lot of the stress. I managed to get to my hotel without incident. Plaza Hotel and Casino maybe not be the luxury hotel that people may stay in but it serves my purpose. Plaza Hotel and Casino is one of these historical hotels in Las Vegas and it shows. The interiors are old but they work. What I didn’t like was that there was a particular smell which I can’t identify. I initially thought that it was cigarette smoke but I understand that there is no smoking in my room. I suspect that it might be smells that was a result of years of smoking. It seems to pervade the entire hotel including the casino area. While I was happy with my room, that was the only thing which I didn’t like about it. I doubt that there is anything management can do about this.
