The Lowell Observatory is one of the more significant astronomical observatories in the world and I was very happy to get a chance to visit this historic observatory in Flagstaff, Arizona. Lowell Observatory is best known for being where the former planet Pluto was discovered back in 1930. Actually, the observatory grounds has several sites. The first one people visit would be the main observatory building which is now a museum showcasing various artifacts related to the observatory. While that was all very interesting an all, I think there are more interesting places here.

There is another dome not too far away from here. By the time, I stepped outside, it was already dark outside and visitors would need to walk in the dark. There were red lights on the ground which guide visitors to the next observatory. It is actually very difficult to photograph the dome because it was already so dark. I realize that is why they chose this location for the observatory, it really is that dark. The dome isn’t as large as the previous one. There are some exhibits here at the ground floor but I don’t think people pay too much attention to it. Most people head straight to the stairs and on to the Pluto Discovery Telescope.
