Jardin de Diane

Fountain of Diana at Chateau de Fontainebleau

Fountain of Diana at Chateau de Fontainebleau

After what feels like an eternity of seeing apartments and rooms all decorated to the max, I was finally outside the chateau. I know it is a blessing to be able to visit these places as part of a vacation but I can’t help but get tired from seeing all these all in one go. It is like visiting one of the famous museums like the Louvre or the Vatican Museum where you would get tired after a few minutes of walking. I know there will be people who like these kinds of things but for me just seeing them one after the other can be exhausting. Thus I was almost relieved to be outside the chateau itself. I can see there there are still places to visit here.

Chateau de Fontainebleau from the Garden of Diana

The Jardin de Diane or Garden of Diana is a large garden which is adjacent to the chateau. It is not the large garden in the center but one behind the chateau. It is meant to be the private garden of the king and queen and immediately, you can feel how the place is much quieter than the rest of the area. The garden is large and has paths for visitors to walk. One of the main features of the garden is the Fountain of Diana which features a statue of Diana, the goddess of the hunt with dogs. This area used to be more private with the garden itself actually enclosed by another building which is no longer there. The garden is actually a refreshing change from the over the top designs that I have seen the past hour or so.
