Inside the Church of Saint Martin in Colmar

It probably no longer comes as a surprise that Colmar also has a large church. That is the Church of Saint Martin. Vonsidering the size of Colmar, it probably has a decent sized church. It is a gothic church in the center of Colmar. At the time of my visit, there is a Christmas market which makes photographing the church a challenge. I thought to just pay a visit inside. As you would expect of gothic churches, the Church of Saint Martin is dark inside. In true gothic style there are tall columns here which make seeing the ceiling difficult because it is dark to begin with.

What you can immediately notice here are the beautiful stained glass windows that are present here. I think these should come part and parcel with gothic churches. Although this church was never considered a cathedral, it has a few features which are common in cathedrals and basilicas. The ambulatory is one of these features where is has a passageway which goes behind the altar. The ambulatory is also dotted with several small chapels. As far as churches are concerned, this church is somewhat unremarkable. By no means is the church ugly. Maybe I was spoiled with all the amazing churches that I have visited this trip. I guess, I can’t be that lucky to visit jaw-droppingly beautiful churches in France all the time.
