I was rushing through the Palace of Tau, which is now a museum, primarily because I was already bored. Historical museums aren’t really my thing, it doesn’t really interest me if they show a painting of some king or some artifact used in the church. I do understand that much of French museums are like this because they have such a rich history. I may not understand much of it but at least I would see and appreciate it. As I was walking through the museum, I noticed that the stuff on display have changed. No more tapestries of some event that I don’t recognize. This time what is one exhibit are the some artifacts taken from the church itself.

One will recall that the Cathedral of Notre Dame de Reims was heavily damaged by first world war. The Germans decided to shell the cathedral to break the morale of the people. As a result, the cathedral was unrecognizable. What followed was a massive restoration effort which rebuilt the cathedral to what we see now. One parts of the cathedral didn’t make it back there. Some of them are actually on display here at the Palace of Tau. My understanding is that some of the parts were duplicated and installed in the cathedral. I wasn’t sure of the reason why, maybe it was in poor condition that to use it in an actual structure might not be good for stability, especially for a structure as large as the Cathedral of Notre Dame de Reims.
