The Powerscourt Estate and Gardens is a wonderful place to go walking. I’m not sure if there is any way to get in without paying since it is private property. I was thinking maybe it would be open for locals for walks but I digress. The estate has a few distinct areas of interest which makes it a great place to visit. At least you are not stuck with just a garden to see. There is no fixed trail to follow since it seems to branch all over the place. We thought to visit one of the more curious places here in the estate – the Pet Cemetery.

There is a section of the estate which was reserved for the burial sites of the residents’ pets. The Pet Cemetery isn’t as creepy as it sounds but I still won’t be coming here at night. There are three rows of burial sites all with their individual tombstones. The tombstones have a short message of the owner expressing their love to their deceased pets. It was a sobering to see all these love that is expressed through these short messages. It just goes to show how much the owners loved their pets. The tombstone would show the name and breed of the pets, usually they are dogs. There don’t seem to be any recent burials here since no one really lives at the Powerscourt Estate anymore.
