I probably knew that today was going to be a washout. The day didn’t start right because it was so rainy and eventually there was a persistent fog along the coast which made seeing the sights all but impossible. At the end of the day, I went to the town of Bantry to look for a place to eat but there wasn’t any for some reason. I would have thought that a town that large would already have quite a few restaurants open. The restrictions on eating a restaurants were just lifted and I guess the shop owners weren’t ready for that. I decided to call it quits and just head back to Kenmare where I would be spending the night at.

I knew from the previous day that there were already restaurants open in Kenmare so I was sure that I would find something there. I once again crossed the Caha mountains which separates Kenmare from county Cork. I have passed through this mountain range two times already and I wasn’t really bothered by it anymore. It was still foggy but I don’t really need to drive that fast as long as I get there. I left the car at the bed and breakfast and walked to town. I found this place called The Coachman. It operates a hotel and it also has a restaurant.

I decided to splurge a bit here and eat a little more. I had chicken wings for starters which was lovely. For my mains I had a local seafood pie with a pastry crust. I actually like the pie. It had a good serving of seafood in the pie and the crust itself is a nice touch. I originally wanted slow roasted pork tenderloin but they didn’t have it. If there is one thing I have to complain about food in Ireland, is that it quite boring. Yes, there are people who can make good seafood chowder, or great fish and chips better than others but it is pretty much the same kind of food everywhere. I like to try different kinds of food but there is just not much variety here. This is not The Coachman’s fault because I knew their food was good but it is just an opinion I have of the local food scene in Ireland.
