Sandycove

Sandy Cove at Sandycove

Sandy Cove at Sandycove

I managed to find my way to a tiny beach in some remote corner of county Cork. It wasn’t mentioned in any map and I just happened to see it as I was making my way to Toe Head. I thought that it didn’t seem to be that far so I might as well try to make the trip and see for myself. To my surprise, this was no secret beach, in fact, there were already people there enjoying a dip in the water. I was almost sure that I would be the only one there but I stand corrected. Since this is just a small beach, parking isn’t that plentiful but considering how many we were, I think it was just right.

The parking area is a bit elevated so you can see some of the cliffs around the area. Probably the most important place here would be the beach itself. It isn’t called Sandycove for nothing. The beach area is narrow and it can certainly be described as a cove. You can then walk all the way down to the water and swim. There were already people swimming at the time and they seem to be enjoying. The weather wasn’t that great so I didn’t feel the urge to join them for a dip. It feels like this cove would make a great place for a beach barbecue even if there wasn’t anyone doing it at the time. From the cove, you can look out to the sea and it would appear that the sea just goes on forever. It was almost scary to go swimming because you appear to be leaving the safety of the cove.
