Closer Look at Galley Head Lighthouse

When I arrived at Galley Head, I head straight for the cliffs, which is usually what these places are known for. I was aware that there is a lighthouse here in the area but it seems that the way to the lighthouse is blocked by gates. Okay, technically, it is wide open, but I don’t want to know what will happen if I disregard the no entry sign. The lighthouse isn’t visible from the cliffs which left me a little disappointed. On way back to the car, I noticed that there was a path which I didn’t see before. It seems that there is a viewing deck here, so I just thought to have a look here.

I was pleased to know that this is a viewpoint to another set of cliffs which is away from the Atlantic side. It is much more peaceful here compared to the other side. Additionally, you can see the lighthouse from here. The lighthouse sits on top of the headland and is visible for miles out. Like most lighthouses, it is colored white. From the viewpoint, the lighthouse is so far away that it is difficult to see any detail. I had to use my zoom lens to have a closer look at the lighthouse. I understand that it is possible to stay at cottages near the lighthouse, I don’t know if this is still the case. I think it would be an interesting experience to stay there.
