Kinsale has quite a few heritage structures. They aren’t bunched together though, so you need to walk around the town to get there. As I was walking around town, I ran into another one which is called Desmond Castle. Although it is described to be a castle. This castle is quite unlike the ones I have seen elsewhere. In fact, it feels more like a normal, albeit, medieval building. This is primarily due to its location. Unlike the castles which I have seen elsewhere, Desmond castle is built in the center of town. Other castles I have seen usually stand by themselves usually by the water. Desmond Castle is none of those.

Desmond Castle was built as a customs house back in the 1500s. This is named Desmond Castle because it was built by the earl of Desmond. Eventually, it was used as a prison. These days, it is a tourist attraction. Unfortunately, as of this writing, the pandemic is still raging so indoor tours are not possible. I can only look at it from the outside. I wonder what other structures used to be around Desmond Castle. I would imagine that there would have been several important structures in the vicinity of the castle, but that doesn’t seem to be the case here. At least, I don’t see any that have been preserved.
