Inside Our Lady of Lourdes Church at Inch Island

Inside Our Lady of Lourdes Church Inch Island

I managed to find a small gem at Inch Island in the form of Our Lady of Lourdes Church. This church is a Roman Catholic church that serves the island. Compared to other churches in Ireland, this one is relatively new having been built in the year 1932. As a result, it looks very new and well maintained. It was still pandemic times when I visited so there were signs about cleaning hands and maintaining social distance. I don’t think I have anything to worry about here since there were no people around. I went in the back or maybe it was the front of the church, as it was hard to tell.

The church is small but it is still lined with two columns of pews. As expected, you have the already in front so there was nothing surprising there. The church is quite charming with some stained glass windows near the altar. What I didn’t know was that there is a stone that was supposedly touched by the Blessed Virgin Mary during her apparitions at Lourdes, France. The stone was sent over to the church of the local faithful. I thought that was an interesting piece of information. This kind of thing you don’t normally see in other churches.
