Muckross Abbey Graveyard

I was quite surprised with the level that Muckross Abbey was preserved. It started out ordinarily as I explored the old church where a lot of the features have been lost to the elements. However, this was different for the abbey itself. The cloister of Muckross Abbey was remarkably preserved. It even has a roof in contrast to the rest of the complex. I wasn’t sure why this was the case but it was nice that everything looks like it was back then. Parts of the ceiling can be a bit low here so it is best to mind your head as you make your way out.

Like a lot of old monasteries, the grounds of Muckross Abbey was also used as a graveyard. Visitors would see the graveyard as they enter the abbey complex but I decided to look at the abbey first. Now that I was done with the abbey it was time to have a look at the graveyard. I knows this is a place where you need to show a respect and not be all touristy so I just made it quick. The graveyard is still in active use as you can see people who have been recently buried here.
