Muckross Abbey

I actually haven’t see too much of Killarney Town, as most of the time I would be on the outskirts of the town seeing the sights. I inevitably missed a few places and one of these is Muckross Abbey. I visited Muckross House a day before and it was only until I was leaving did I find out that there was another place called Muckross Abbey. I made it a point to come back here the following day since it was easy enough to visit. Additionally, the weather was much better that day so I was able to enjoy the trip better.

Muckross Abbey was known as Irrelagh Friary, I can see that it may be a little difficult to remember so it is better known as Muckross Abbey. The friary was operated by the Franciscans. The friary is in a rather secluded area of the park and can be accessed by a nice well marked path. It won’t be the first time for me to see one of these old friaries. Honestly, they tend to look alike. There would be ruins of an old church. And there would be tomb inside the friary grounds. I wonder if the Muckross Abbey would be offering something different.
