Going to the Bahia Palace

I managed to visit and get back from Ait Ben-Haddou in one piece. I wasn’t really that happy with the tour since we didn’t get to see the iconic view for the fort. I think this all boils down to the tour guide and what he wants to show you. If he was just going through the motions of the tour, he would bring you the village itself and nothing more. There were several view points in the village where you can better appreciate the UNESCO World Heritage even more but our tour guide would not have any of that. I suspected that he was thinking of how much he would earn from commissions from our lunch at the local restaurant.

I was given the option of joining a group tour of Essaouira but I declined because that experience. The following day, I finally got breakfast at Riad Bousskri. I decided that I would be “just” going around the city of Marrakesh. The medina of Marrakesh itself is a UNESCO World Heritage site. There are actually several historical sites within the medina that are worth visiting. The closest one to my riad was the Bahia Palace. Having said that, it is still quite a walk to it. Although I can see it in the map, I still had problems finding the place. I guess this is just one of the challenges in visiting Morocco.
