I managed to make it to the seaside town of El Jadida. It is a UNESCO World Heritage site but I can go there later. I just finished lunch and I was preparing to explore the city. As I was looking at the map, I noticed that there was a lighthouse nearby. It was actually in the middle of the city which I thought was a strange location to put the lighthouse. To get to the lighthouse, I needed to walk through the market. It was easy enough to find since it is so tall. This is the Sidi Bou Afi Lighthouse.

The Sidi Bou Afi Lighthouse is a tall lighthouse which is painted white. The main door to the lighthouse has the number 1916 on the doorway which represents the year the lighthouse was completed. The main door has a Islamic style door, but like other lighthouses, this one is not open to the public either. I’m pretty sure that with a lighthosue this tall, it would be great to see the surrounding area, much like an observation tower. There are a few dwellings near the lighthouse itself. I was taking photos of the lighthouse but they didn’t seem be bothered by my presence. I thought it was rather strange to have a lighthouse this far inland. Sure, El Jadida is by the ocean but I would have thought it would make sense to build it right next to the water. Then again the Sidi Bou Afi Lighthouse is quite tall so it would be easier to spot from the ocean.
