Saint Peter’s Cathedral in Rabat

It was getting late in the afternoon and I thought I should start making my way back to old medina. I have seen quite a bit of the city of Rabat. I can see how they have managed to keep the old and still build a modern city out of it. I’m actually quite impressed how modern parts of it are. I would be walking back to the old medina but as I was making my way back to the old medina. I ran into a church, actually Saint Peter’s Cathedral. I probably got used to the fact that Morocco is a Muslim country that the sight of a Christian church surprised me. Saint Peter’s Cathedral is the seat of the Archdiocese of Rabat.

The church building was built in the Art Deco style which was common in 1919 when it started construction. I don’t know how much of the people are Catholic here in Rabat, but I think it is a breath of fresh air to see how tolerant the people here are. Looking at the church, I would even see traces of Islamic design which I have seen in mosques in the country. Even the towers of the church look like minarets. The inside of the church was dark. There weren’t any people in their either, though the square outside the church was full of students. It seems like this is a good place to hang out.
