Going to the Kasbah of the Udayas

It seems that I was in a historical part of Rabat and there were several interesting places nearby. Perhaps most prominent is the Kasbah of the Udayas. It is at the end of a modern promenade and at night it is lit up quite nicely. The kasbah sticks out into the water and it makes for a nice background. You can even sit by the water and just spend the afternoon there. I was hoping to get in the kasbah but it seems that it is actually under restoration. The part which was near the promenade seems to have a lot of construction going on that going in was out of the question.

Like a lot of citadels, the Kasbah of the Udayas is surrounded by a imposing walls. For some reason, the walls of the kasbah’s that I have seen in Morocco are all sand colored. Maybe it is because sand is plentiful here? I won’t consider Rabat to be desert but it also has the same sand colored walls that other kasbahs do. Perhaps people from the desert made use of certain materials and they just brought them wherever they went including coastal towns. At the far end of the walls of the kasbah, was a museum but I also found out that there was an entrance into the kasbah’s inner city. Inner city wins.
