Getting back from Moulay Idriss back to Meknès was quite an experience. I had a vague idea of where the bus stop would be but there was no clear queue here. There was a stop here which was near a school. Pretty soon, people were gathering. There was no schedule posted here so I wasn’t sure when the bus would arrive. I don’t even know which bus I was expecting. I was hoping that it would be the same bus which I used to get here. I have a feeling that we were all waiting for the same bus. The crowd of students swelled and there was still no defined queue. It looks like it will be every man for himself here. True enough, it was a free for all as the bus arrived. Somehow I managed to get a seat for myself, while the kids packed the back of the bus. This is third world bus riding.

Fortunately, I knew how to get back to the medina from the bus stop. I made a beeline for lunch at Chez Kenza which seemed to be one of the places which is recommended here in Meknès. I had an idea of where the place is since I remember passing it by the previous day. Visitors need to knock to get in the place. It actually feels more like a going to their house to eat. This seems to be the norm here as people make the most of their place and take advantage of the presence of visitors to earn a little bit more. I had chicken tagine with prunes which I thought was quite nice. I tend to like sweet dishes and the prunes give you that nice sweet flavor. I had harira soup to push it all down. The owner doesn’t speak a word of English, maybe if you know French, you would have better luck. Fortunately, the menu was in English and I guess that is all she needed.
