I think two nights in the medina of Fès is enough excitement for me. The place is a maze of alleys and it is guaranteed that you would get lost if you went on your own. But, that is actually part of the experience. You have to go through a gauntlet of touts who want to offer you leather bags, scarves, a look at the tannery or whatever. If it sounds like Fès is a stressful place to be in, I would agree with you. I guess very dense places get to me now. The following day, I checked out of the dar and made my way out of the medina. I would be moving on to my next destination but I needed to get a cab first.

I hate how you have to haggle for everything here. Taxis are one thing which irritate me. I don’t know if I’m trying to lowball them but I don’t think I was being unreasonable. Someone agreed to my thirty dirham taxi ride to the Fès Railway Station which wasn’t really that far. Unfortunately for the driver, I was the only one going there so he didn’t get to take additional passengers going the same way. Either way, I think it was still a fair price for that distance. The petit taxi passed through the modern city of Fès. The train station is in the middle of the city and I was relieved that I won’t have to haggle for anything anytime soon.
