I was exhausted from riding on the bus to the historic city of Fès. I was also hungry since I didn’t get to eat lunch when we stopped at Ouzzane. Now that I have arrived in the city of Fès, it was time to find my accommodations. I had a glimpse of the medina of Fès as we were arriving. But nothing would really prepare you for what you would see when you get here. The medina of Fès is one massive maze of narrow streets. This makes finding places almost impossible. I tried looking it up in Google Maps and surprisingly, it showed me where it is. Google Maps doesn’t have as much detail as you would like but for my purposes it was able to guide me to my accommodations rather flawlessly.

I would say that it was almost flawless since I would end up passing right by the Dar El Yasmine two times before realizing it was there. There were also signs which pointed the way to the dar so this was less stressful than I thought. This reminds me of when I was looking for a place in Rabat medina and how it was impossible find a dar since it is hidden somewhere nearby even if you used Google Maps. In this case, I never needed to call the dar since I was able to find it quickly. I was relieved to be finally here and I quickly unpacked an got ready for this massive medina.

I was given a bedroom right beside the concierge. There is a large door which opens up to the bedroom itself. You can close it from the inside but more alarmingly you can also close it from the outside. No untoward incidents happened though. The bedroom was tastefully decorated in beautiful Moroccan design. The bathroom was okay but it can get wet from a few leaks. I didn’t bother me too much though. What did bother me was the people outside the dar. People have the habit of hanging out on the street even in the evening. The bedroom was right beside where they would be. Needless to say, I could hear everything. After a while I got used to it and it didn’t bother me anymore.
