It was another day of traveling for me. This time I have learned not to get too greedy with my traveling that I would end up scheduling one thing after another and end up missing a lot of stuff if my schedule doesn’t go as planned. I have allocated this whole day for traveling from Chefchaoen to Fez. Looking at the map, you would think that it would be short ride but this won’t be the case. Some parts of these would be mountain roads so you can’t really drive fast. The bus seems to be large and comfortable enough for what I expect to be a four hour drive.

The trip starts nicely enough was it winds through excellent mountain scenery. But eventually the bus got fogged up inside that it was difficult to see what was outside. The bus would stop several times along the way, some of them seemingly in the middle of nowhere. Perhaps the most major stop was the one which stops at Ouezzane. This was a rather large town. Apparently it is famous in Morocco to be their version of Mecca where people would come and do pilgrimages. This is a great example of how the great religions can coexist with one another. For me, it is just a place for me to change buses.

The bus station at Ouezzane is a very busy place. Being a pilgrimage site, you would expect that people from all over the country would be here. There is some method to the madness here. The bus driver told me that to wait for the bus to Fez. There is a waiting area here but it is just as crazy there as anywhere else. It was very disorienting since this was an unfamiliar place and there were just so many people. It is not surprising that there would be people who would try to befriend foreigners here. I had to shell of a few dirhams just to let someone practice their English with me. This is probably not an unusual occurrence but it is better if you just ignore people who try to speak to you, except of course your bus driver. You can probably pretend you don’t speak English just to keep them away.

I missed getting lunch here since I was busy entertaining someone. Eventually the bus arrived. The guy sent me off saying to be careful with my stuff etc. This was after I had to give him money to keep him happy. Anyway, with that, I set off to the city of Fez which by this time wasn’t very far anymore. The bus would pass by the medina of Fez enroute to the bus station. This was convenient for me since the entrance to the medina and my riad wasn’t that far away. By this time, I have started to gather experience in navigating the cities of Morocco. I hope I would do well here.
